32 53s: AFC West Pre-Training Camp 53-man Roster Projection
My initial roster projections for Denver, Kansas City, Vegas, and the L.A. Chargers
Below, you can find my 53-man roster projection for the AFC West. You’re welcome to share my graphics wherever you please, just so long as you tag my social account or direct them back here! You can even share the graphic below and mark it up with any disagreements you might have! More info on my process can be found here.
Denver
I shared my predictions for the AFC North earlier today and the Broncos remind me of the Bengals in that they retained enough talent that they didn’t necessarily need to do much in free agency. Unlike the Bengals though, the Broncos made three big signings in Dre Greenlaw, Evan Engram, and Talanoa Hufanga. There should be some spots to fight for on the defensive line, but otherwise the Broncos roster is carved out more clearly than a lot of teams.
Kansas City
The defending AFC champs are filling slots vacated by long-term starters Joe Thuney & Justin Reid with existing talent. They have a wide open race at running back and presumably a competition at backup QB, but otherwise it’ll be much of the same core running it back for Kansas City.
Las Vegas
The Raiders are turning their roster over as quickly as any team with a new regime now in place. The Raiders 91-man roster has only 46 players remaining who finished last season with the team, third fewest behind only Jacksonville and Tennessee. My model expect the Raiders, who made 11 picks in the draft in April, to have 12.4 rookies on their initial 53, the most in football.
L.A. Chargers
The Chargers have just 24 players in my model’s “Strong”, “Bubble”, and “Dark Horse” categories (15% to 90%), which is the lowest in the league. With so many players occupying the extremes, I’m anticipating a lot of players fighting for a few spots across the roster.
